Luxury vinyl flooring has four layers: base, core, image, and wear. Often, an attached cork or foam backing provides extra cushioning, insulation, and moisture protection. Standard sheet vinyl flooring is water-resistant while many types of LVP and LVT are waterproof. These planks and tiles will not swell, regardless of how long the floor is covered in water. Therefore, waterproof luxury vinyl floors will not warp or buckle even when subjected to standing water. Core construction determines how flooring reacts to water. Any brand that is 100% vinyl is waterproof, as is any brand that is designed with one of two types of rigid core layers: stone plastic composite (SPC) and wood-plastic composite (WPC).
